“You’ve Just Gotta Keep On Going…”

Posted: 02/21/2012 in Obama, Politics, United States

It is a bit weird to subscribe emotional attachment to a political figure, I think. Cults of personality are odd at best and dangerous at worst. Politicians are people of tremendous power and wealth who are already three-quarters of the way colored by the system before they reach us in any form. But, darnit, if it isn’t love that I actually feel for my president at times.

Especially at times like this (from New Orleans, 2009):

Of course this clip has nothing to do with Obama’s policies and various compromises and he doesn’t address the specters of otherness and race or the repeated whispers of “birth certificate” and “secret Muslim.” What he does do is give a warm, affirming, and honest answer to a 4th grader –What he does do is be real and it turns out that real Barack Obama is totally lovable.

My take on this entry: ~You’ve just gotta keep on going is reminiscent of:

To whom much is given much is expected ~ this is the mantra I raised my children on ~ it is proverb my husband & I try to live by ~ to work hard to make a difference ~ I do not understand how the people of this great country cannot care in relation to their actions, about those less fortunate.

Everyone does not earn (or care) about driving a nice, new car or living in a big, fancy, house but everyone deserves equally high-quality – not separate but equal but equally high-quality health care.

When people are sick without hope the situation does nothing to benefit anyone.

If people do not believe in God then they have a moral obligation & for those who profess to have the love of God: there is second of the two basic commands which all other rules fall under: 1) love God & 2) love each other –

I too love our president for working so hard to do the right thing & being simultaneously gentle & strong leader.

However our government limits the power of the president so people do the right thing! To whom much is given much is expected ~You’ve just gotta keep on going…
